Sir Ed Davey

Ed has served as a Member of Parliament for Kingston and Surbiton from 1997 to 2015, and from June 2017 until the dissolution of Parliament in November 2019. Ed is currently the Liberal Democrat candidate for Kingston and Surbiton.

An economist by training, Ed was a business consultant before he was elected for the first time in 1997. It was his concerns about the environment that first got him politically active. During the coalition government, Ed served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, before he was promoted to Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change from 2012-2015.

Ed says his proudest achievement as an MP was to have led the policy to secure a massive increase in renewable power in the UK which quadrupled under the Coalition government and put the UK on track to beat the 30% target by 2020. He has also championed several local campaigns including saving the A&E and maternity units at Kingston Hospital from closure, delivering additional primary school places in Kingston and securing millions to invest in a reformed Post Office network.

Ed was elected to be Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in September 2019. He is the Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and Shadow Cabinet member for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
